Summer Camp

Our 2009 Summer Camp Trip!

Our schedule and location were different from before, so there were lots of fun new experiences.

We were fortnate enough to have good weather again this year, and everyone was well-behaved on the way.

We arrived at the old school house in Ayabe, that we would be using for the Camp. Come on, people, let's see what happens next!

We started with lunch. We had authentic "flowing somen noodles."…but first everyone had to catch their own share.

Even the little kids were able to get somen at the lower end of the chute. "Hey, big kids, leave some for us!"

Our bellies were full, so it was time to play. Waterfights for people of all ages!

We all had a great time getting soaked from head to toe!

The laughter and giggling filled the schoolyard.

Since we had the playground all to ourselves, we could enjoy ourselves as much as we liked without a worry.

You can't forget the watermelon game! The teachers gave directions to the children, who tried to hit the watermelon.

Eating watermelon you cracked open yourself is the best. What's this? Are you going to eat the rind, too?

We walked through some nature on the way to our next event. The greenery was lovely!

Harvesting cherry tomatoes. The kids took as many of these sweet tomatoes as they could pick and eat -- and when they got full, they filled up plastic bags and put a few extra in their mouths!

Wow, that cow is big! Milking can be scary. Don't move, cow!

Next we tossed food to some gold-medal winning carp at a hatchery. They explained that carp weren't the same as gold fish, but some goldfish were still visible.

That evening, we had a barbeque. Hurry up and cook! Eating food outside is always delicious.

The teachers were sweating trying to keep up with 3 barbeques and all the other activities.

Peering through telescopes, we looked at the moon and stars. Looking at all the things we couldn’t see with our naked eyes brought gasps of wonder.

After a full day of playing, everyone fell fast asleep.

Everyone had a big breakfast. All the running around had worked up some big appetites.

After breakfast, everyone tried making 5 types of bread, and a bunch of pizza for lunch. I was surprised at how good the miso was and how well the shiso juice went with the vegetable soup.

We also made sesame bread sticks. Since they were baked in a stone oven, they came out especially delicious. Then we got some souvenirs to take home.

In a small pond in the schoolyard there were frogs and gold fish. Where are they? Can you see them?
